Her name is Miku Hatsune, first appeared on a singing synthesizer called Vocaloid, her vocal was provided by a voice actress. The synthesizer isn't really a game, it a application where you can write a song and it will sing what you input. Think Mabinogi's composing and instrument playing with actual singing.
Anyways, she got REALLY popular in the recent years because of her idol image for many different reasons.
