Subject: good animes? Sat Jul 03, 2010 5:48 pm
dang, I just finished Angel Beats today and I decided to start this thread, because it feels like I'm missing out on animes...
so here's a deal I'll suggest some good animes to watch and how about you guys give me some suggestions also?(i'm gonna skip all the obvious chocies)
1. Cross Game - it's romance/sports anime and you will be VERY convinces by watching 1 EP... It is literally going to rock your world. I don't even know how the author thought of the opening scene... it definately did some damage to my mental health. so go watch the first episode now!
2. Kaiji - the worse drawing ever but really really well thought out. it's gonna change your perspective of animes. watch it, i literally finished the series in two days.
3. Angel Beats - oh gee, so much emotion. My head was blank after watching this.
4. Eureka7 - holy shit. so. amazing. this anime is better than 100 orgasms and finishing this anime will be one of the worthy accomplishments as human being. seriously, it is very very well made anime, so watch it.
5. Baccano! - another master piece... everything about this anime is very insightful and clever. second season is coming out this fall.
6. Durarara - ANOTHER master piece. makers of Baccano made this anime and as expected - it is very good. but not as good as Baccano.
7. Yotsuba to - it is coming out this fall. if you read the manga, you already know 'Yotsuba' is impossible to dislike.
now hit me up with animes

I'll try to avoid the obvious mainstream animes, some are a few years back, but i have a feeling my taste in anime is very different from yours.
Air - nice ending, might make u depress for a few days - (original story from Key/Visual Art's - same as Angel Beats). Kanon - (Key/Visual Art's) Clannad - (Key/Visual Art's) Kimi ga Nozomu Eien - my favorite romance/drama. Original story from Age. Higurashi no naku koro ni Ga-Rei Zero Toradora Kara no Kyoukai - (suggest watch Tsukihimi first before you go thru this 7 movie series) True Tears Claymore Black Lagoon - (watch this one in English if possible)
For this summer season, I will watch or at least try: High School of the Dead - for my guilty pleasure needs. Sekirei ~Pure Engagement~ - just cause i've seen the first season... and more guilty pleasure. Black Rock Shooter - the preview didn't impress me, but i'll try it for Miku Hatsune's spinoff anime. Amagami SS - feels like another Kimikiss anime, not surprised since it's a visual novel also.

The first link is a thread that had a list, which wasn't compiled by me. I was just referencing you to a thread regarding the topic since you were asking the forums.
I personally haven't been watching animes heavily, 15-20 shows a season, for around 2 years now; I only keep up with the shows that still have yet to conclude, 2-3 shows, since those days. Still, I will admit to picking up 1 or 2 shows such as Gundam Unicorn since then.
The second link was a website I used heavily that listed currently airing shows, shows that were going to be airing soon and shows that ended recently. This helped me sift through all the shows for the season and last season and pick out ones I liked. I believe they link to anidb to give you descriptions for the shows, but honestly I would just copy the title and goto anime news network instead.
Anyways, going back to your topic. Yotsuba& I'm pretty sure is just a rumor as the author stated numerous times that it would be too hard to deliver some of jokes animated and that unlike azumanga daioh he didn't have any plans ever to have the manga turned into an animation. If you've found something then I guess we'll wait and see.
Claymore had a terrible ending and you should be reading the manga even though it's currently heading towards failure and doom... 40 pages monthly to 20-30 pages monthly, at one point bimonthly -____-;;
I don't know many shounen harem style animes off the top of my head. You seem to list several such as Air, Kanon, Clannad, etc. If I remember any I'll alter this response.
I know Black Lagoon: Roberta's Blood Trail OVA was subtitled recently. This is a 40 minute ova or third "season" that will be ongoing for 4 additional animations.
If you want my own suggestions I'll be happy to give them, but I hope that this helps clear up some things and that some of the things I stated are helpful to you for now.
PS The easiest way to figure out good animes is to download or watch all of the first episodes on stream every season. I used to do that when I was in college.

School Days (Hits particularly close to home if you have trouble with fidelity) Afro Samurai (Because Samuel L. Jackson is awesome) Toradora! (Because it has a coherent story and the music's catchy as all hell) Hetalia: Axis Powers & World Series (Because it pokes fun at nationalism)
Kinda moved away from anime a while ago, so here's some recommendations on some good non-animated content:
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Probably the funniest show on T.V) Community (Still funny, and it stars Joe McHale) The Deadliest Warrior (Interesting idea, good execution) Burn Notice (Just fun, and Jeffrey Donovan's a great actor) Dexter (The protagonist is a serial killer, 'nuff said) House M.D (Modern-day Sherlock Holmes) Firefly (Great premise, cast, and writing. It's too bad Fox canceled it. :\)
